Silk Art: SCHERAZADE VEILS
During his research, David found a significant contributor to the theatrical interpretation of Middle Eastern costuming and stage design. Leon Bakst, who was the set and costume designer for Dhiaglev and his Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo in Paris at the turn of the last century, created a series of costume and backdrop images that are unique because he worked from authentic regional sources before the influence of Hollywood movies changed costuming tradition in the Middle East. Bakst's watercolor images of costume designs often included images of dance veils. David has recreated these original veil designs of Leon Bakst. Each veil carries the name of the ballet or character for which it was designed.
